Perceived and defined as “another/a distinct latinity” (alexandru niculescu), the Romanian language has always aroused the interest of Western cultures, which in time has resulted in the emergence of a diversity of research methods and topics in the fields of intercultural dialogue and intercultural mediation. this study presents the case of the school of Romanian studies at the University of Padua, renowned for the foundation of the dialogue between the Romanian and the italian cultures, an ongoing successful exchange. the article illustrates how, in the former half of the 20th century, this school cultivated within the italian cultural sphere the values that had contributed to the creation of the national identity of the Romanian people. this illustration is based not only on the didactic and research activity of some personalities of that period, but also on a selection of bachelor theses that have never been referenced before.
